Description
You're looking at the work of someone who has just discovered the power of the tissue.
Well, here he is. Jude Law, my third realistic drawing. I think it turned out pretty well, certainly better than my last drawing of Hugh Laurie, although I must say that really smooth shading is harder than it seems.
His left ear took me so long to get right, not to mention his hair. One must be crazy to draw that mess on his head all in one sitting. It would take five hours. I know because it just so happens that I am a bit crazy.
Tools: HB 0.5mm mechanical pencil, normal eraser (which was a pain in the ass to be stuck with when I had to do smooth erasing)
Paper: A4 110 gsm white cartridge paper
Time taken: approximately 18 hours

For Critique-It:
The area I need most help on is probably the hair... when it comes to something as complicated and as detailed as this, how do I go about giving it more depth? At the moment I can see a lot of places where it doesn't look like a convincing part of his head, if that makes sense.
The second thing would be the quality of the shading. I've seen many realistic portraits that have absolutely no visible signs of pencil marks. What would that mostly be affected by, paper quality, pencil quality, or simply technique? Or a combination?
Lastly, I guess if you can spot any general mistakes, please point them out, and perhaps a brief explanation on how that could be improved. The original photo I used is here www.ohthescandal.com/home/geti… if you need it.
