The Man on the Tor

Description

All was sweet and mellow and peaceful in the golden evening light, and yet as I looked at them my soul shared none of the peace of Nature but quivered at the vagueness and the terror of that interview which every instant was bringing nearer. With tingling nerves but a fixed purpose, I sat in the dark recess of of the hut and waited with sombre patience for the coming of its tenant.

And then at last I heard him. Far away came the sharp clink of a boot striking upon a stone. Then another and yet another, coming nearer and nearer. I shrank back into the darkest corner and cocked the pistol in my pocket, determined not to discover myself until I had an opportunity of seeing something of the stranger. There was a long pause which showed that he had stopped. Then once more the footsteps approached and a shadow fell across the opening of the hut.

Gosh I hate the look of this thumbnail...

Anyhow, decided to put forward an entry to #sherlock-holmes' favourite canon scene contest.

This is probably by far my favourtie scene from my favourite story, even though I had guessed who the man was before the end of that chapter. So you can imagine how annoyed I was when I saw the way they changed this scene in the Granada feature length. It was the scene I was most looking forward to. Mortimer just had to kill Watson's buzz with his meaningless presence ¬¬

The colour palette you see here is the result of my playing around with levels (probably more than I should have), whereas the original is a more warmer hue. I know that in terms of lighting and colour this really doesn't make sense, but I the colours here reflect the contrast between Watson's anxiety and the peaceful lanscape better than the original. Art is, after all, about the communication of emotion and shouldn't be confined by the limits of reality.

And yes, that is how I imagine Watson from the canon :P

Hound of the Baskervilles, I hazard....

Conan Doyle bumped off Holmes ,BUT peop persistently demanded his return. The Hound was set prior to his fall at the Falls, so as to NOT violate the finality of that scene.

Yet they persisted , demanding a CURRENT adventure ....
